Neurofeedback uses sound and video therapeutically to change our brain
Sound and images are to the nervous system as food is to our bodies - feeding us the electrical impulses that charge and change the neocortex of our brains. Sound does not just vibrate the eardrum, it resonates the entire body. Images get converted to electrical signals within our brain and can make us cry, get the chills or arouse us deeply. Neurofeedback uses sound and video as feedback to reinforce or inhibit brain wave patterns, resulting in a decrease or elimination of dysfunctions as the nervous system re-regulates. The repetition and reinforcement of new patterns over time builds new neural pathways in the brain for better functioning.
Everyday stresses and trauma, especially those built over a lifetime, create dysfunctional neural pathways in our brains. Overriding old patterns and regulating rhythms, such as circadian rhythms that govern our ability to achieve sleep, neurofeedback has a published body of literature with regard to ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression and more. Please see links for peer-reviewed research and information regarding effectiveness.
Brain training can reduce reliance on medications. As you become more able to manage your moods, attention, anxiety and stress, you become more emotionally stable and more productive. The timing in your brain improves and your brain literally becomes more efficient and performs better. As this takes place, you may find your need for medications to help with symptoms is reduced and sometimes eliminated. Most clients have already tried medication and psychotherapy in an effort to resolve issues. Although some have experienced a reduction in symptoms, its has not been enough. Unlike medications, brain training has no long-term side effects. It is a learning modality that has an end-point. Neurofeedback has proven itself to be a predictable, effective, evidence-based therapy backed by about 40 years of research.
Unlike medications, neurofeedback is not a quick fix. Not attempting to merely mask symptoms, it teaches the brain to be a better self-regulator. Learning takes time and repetition is needed in order to develop new neural networks, fixing their responses so the changes become dominant and permanent. Neurons that fire together, wire together :)
Neurofeedback helps to tune your brain up.
Why? When the brain is tuned up, attention, mood and behavior improve. It reduces anxiety, diminishes depression, quiets mental chatter and balances emotions, making you feel more in control.
How? The neurofeedback I practice uses technology and an EEG (electroencephalogram) combined with clinical software referenced by a clinical database.
Who? From those who are dealing with serious conditions like depression or autism to individuals who simply want to improve performance. For clients who find medications aren’t enough or aren’t the answer for them, I provide an effective alternative.
What issues have found relief with neurofeedback? ADD/ADHD, Anxiety, Addiction, Attachment Disorder, Autism/Aspergers, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Insomnia/Sleep Problems, Learning Disabilities, Migraines, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress, Seizures and Stroke/Brain Injury.
